Introduction

What are Neck Lines?

Neck lines are horizontal lines or creases that form across the neck. They often begin as fine lines but can gradually deepen into more visible neck wrinkles over time.

Neck lines can appear earlier than expected, as the skin on the neck is naturally thinner, more delicate, and more prone to dehydration and creasing compared to the face.

While commonly associated with ageing, neck lines can also be influenced by everyday habits such as frequent downward movement (“tech neck”), making them increasingly common even in younger individuals.

Because neck lines can develop for different reasons, choosing the right neck treatment depends on understanding their underlying causes.

Causes

What causes Neck Lines?

Neck lines develop due to a combination of ageing, lifestyle habits, and structural changes in the skin. Because the neck has thinner, more delicate skin, it is more prone to early creasing and wrinkle formation.

Common causes of neck lines include:

• Collagen and elastin loss
As we age, the skin produces less collagen and elastin. This leads to reduced firmness and elasticity, making neck lines and neck wrinkles more visible over time.

• Repetitive movement (“tech neck”)
Frequent downward movement — such as looking at phones or laptops — causes repeated folding of the skin, contributing to horizontal neck lines.

• Skin thinning and dehydration
The neck has fewer oil glands, making it more prone to dryness. Thinner, dehydrated skin creases more easily and develops fine lines.

• Sun exposure and environmental factors
UV exposure accelerates collagen breakdown, leading to premature ageing and the formation of neck wrinkles.

Neck Lines & Wrinkle Types

3 Different Types of Neck Lines

Not all neck lines are the same, and understanding the type of neck lines you have is key to choosing the most effective neck lines or neck wrinkles treatment.

Fine Lines & Crepey Neck Skin

Characterised by delicate, superficial lines and a crepey skin texture, this type reflects early collagen decline and dehydration. The skin appears thinner, less supple, and more prone to fine creasing across the surface.

Deeper Horizontal Neck Lines

These neck lines appear as more defined horizontal creases that remain visible even at rest. Over time, repeated folding of the skin combined with progressive collagen loss leads to deeper, more established lines.

Dynamic Neck Lines

Dynamic neck lines become more prominent with movement and are driven by activity of the underlying neck muscles. They may present as lines or subtle banding when speaking, turning, or tensing the neck.

Treatments

Neck Lines & Wrinkles Treatment options

Profhilo injectable for neck lines treatment improving skin hydration and elasticity

Hyaluronic Acid Skin Remodelling Injectables

For fine lines and crepey neck skin

Hyaluronic Acid Skin Remodelling Injectables (e.g. Pr**fhilo) deliver a high concentration of hyaluronic acid into the skin, helping it attract and retain moisture more effectively. This improves hydration, elasticity, and smoothness, allowing fine lines to soften as the skin becomes more supple and less crepey, with an overall improvement in skin texture and quality.

Radiesse calcium hydroxylapatite injection for deeper neck lines and wrinkle treatment

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Biostimulators

For deeper horizontal neck lines

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Biostimulators (e.g. Ra**esse) provide structural support within the skin while stimulating collagen production over time. This helps improve firmness and skin density, making deeper lines less noticeable. As collagen is gradually rebuilt, the skin becomes stronger and more resilient, allowing established neck lines to be better supported.

Botox injection for neck lines and platysma muscle treatment to smooth wrinkles

Botulinum Toxin (Neuromodulator Injections)

For dynamic neck lines

Botulinum Toxin injections works by relaxing the platysma muscle, which contributes to neck lines and banding with movement. By reducing excessive muscle activity, they help smooth lines that appear with expression, resulting in a more refined, relaxed neckline with softer dynamic lines and improved overall contour.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Neck Lines

What is tech neck and can it be treated?

Tech neck is a term used to describe lines that form due to frequent downward posture, especially from prolonged phone or screen use. This repeated movement causes the skin to fold, leading to horizontal neck lines over time.

Tech neck can be treated by improving skin quality, restoring support within the skin, and reducing muscle-related strain, depending on the severity of the lines.

Neck lines can appear at a young age due to genetics, repetitive movement (“tech neck”), dehydration, and naturally thinner skin. Some individuals are more prone to developing lines earlier due to inherited skin characteristics.

Frequent downward posture when using phones or laptops also causes repeated folding of the skin, which can lead to early line formation even before significant ageing occurs.

Skincare can improve hydration and skin texture in dehydration-induced fine lines, but it is usually not enough to significantly reduce established neck lines as most over-the-counter neck creams work on the skin’s surface.

For deeper neck lines or wrinkles, it often requires treatments that penetrate the deeper skin layers to support overall skin quality or stimulate new collagen — something topical creams cannot physically achieve.

Yes, most neck lines can be treated without surgery.

Non-surgical treatments such as Profhilo, Radiesse, and Botulinum Toxin can improve skin quality, restore support within the skin, and reduce muscle-related lines, helping to smooth the appearance of the neck without the need for surgery.

The best treatment for neck lines depends on their underlying cause:

  • Fine lines and crepey skin often respond well to Profhilo, which improves hydration and elasticity.
  • Deeper lines may benefit from Radiesse, which provides structural support and stimulates collagen.
  • Lines caused by muscle movement are typically treated with Botulinum Toxin, which relaxes the platysma muscle.

“Tech neck” refers to neck lines caused by repetitive downward movement, such as looking at phones or laptops. These lines are often horizontal and can appear even in younger individuals.

Ageing neck lines, on the other hand, are mainly caused by collagen loss, skin thinning, and reduced elasticity over time. In many cases, both factors can occur together, contributing to more visible neck lines.

What to Expect

Step 1

All Restylane® Kysse fillers come with lidocaine, an anesthetic, to ensure that your treatment is relaxing and entirely comfortable. Initially, a topical anesthetic will be applied on the injection site to numb the area.

Step 2

Our aesthetic doctor will begin the procedure with the first injection using an ultra-fine needle, before taking a pause to allow the lidocaine in Restylane® Kysse to further numb the lip area.

Step 3

The procedure then continues until the treated area shows the desired results. Thereafter, the injected area will be massaged to ensure that the filler gel is distributed evenly across the lips for natural results.

Are there any before and after photos of Restylane® Kysse results?

Restylane Kysse Frequently Asked Questions
Am I an ideal candidate for Restylane® Kysse Lip Fillers?

Patients should not use Kysse lip filler if they:

  • Have a history of severe allergic reactions.

  • Have had a previous allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid fillers.

  • Are allergic to anesthetics, like lidocaine.

While both of these are hyaluronic acid lip fillers, they have slightly different formulas. Restylane® Kysse adds volume and enhances your existing lip shape and symmetry to create smooth, natural-looking lips. It can also treat smoker’s lines, or commonly known as wrinkles around the mouth.

Juvederm, on the other hand, is a great option for patients who are looking for a more voluminous look. When deciding on which lip filler, it depends on the look you want to achieve.

Due to the different formulations, Restylane® Kysse has a unique structure that lasts longer than other fillers. Most dermal lip fillers last around 9 months, however you can expect results lasting up to 12 months with Restylane® Kysse.

The discomfort experienced during the treatment varies from person to person and depends on factors such as:

  • Sensitivity of the patient

  • Pain tolerance of the patient

  • Anxiety level of the patient

Restylane® Kysse comes with anesthetic inside the gel already, hence discomfort is at its minimum.

All lip fillers have some mild side effects. You may experience some slight swelling and bruising on the injected area, but these should go away within 7 days.

  • As with other lip fillers treatment, a cold compress may be applied to the injected area to reduce swelling.

  • Avoid touching the injected area for at least 6 hours so that you do not accidentally injure your skin while the area is numb. Thereafter, the treatment area can be gently washed with soap and water.

  • Minimise strenuous exercise and exposure to excess heat, sun, or UV rays for the first 24 hours. Exposure to these may cause temporary redness, swelling, or itching at the treated area.

Full aftercare instructions will also be provided after the treatment.
