Hand Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers

TURN BACK THE CLOCK ON AGING HANDS WITH Dr. Jonathan Lee, hand surgeon & aesthetic doctor

introduction

What are Hand Fillers?

Hand fillers are a non-surgical aesthetic treatment designed to rejuvenate our hands by replenishing lost volume, enhancing skin texture, and reducing the telltale signs of aging. These fillers typically consist of compounds like hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane®, or collagen biostimulators, like Radiesse®.

By reintroducing volume to the back of the hands, hand fillers work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and diminish the prominence of veins and tendons for radiant, youthful-looking hands.

This minimally-invasive procedure offers the advantage of minimal downtime, making it a favoured choice among those seeking to improve the overall look of their hands. The results of hand fillers can endure for approximately 12 to 18 months, varying based on the specific type of filler used — book a consultation with our aesthetic doctor here to determine the most suitable treatment for your needs.

What are Hand Fillers?

ARE YOUR HANDS GIVING AWAY YOUR AGE?

When determining a person’s true age, it’s often their hands rather than their faces that reveal the most. Hands are frequently overlooked in skincare regimens, yet they can be a clear indicator of one’s age.

As we age, our elastin and collagen production naturally decreases, and this causes our hands to become thinner. This natural aging process leads to increased skin laxity and visibility of the underlying bone structure, revealing the tendons and veins underneath. Your hands may also start to develop a sunken, wrinkled, or bony-looking appearance.

Dermal fillers offer a solution to rejuvenate aging hands by replenishing lost volume to enhance and reverse the signs of aging in your hands.

Age spots may also develop as a result of aging and prolonged sun exposure, and laser treatments can also be one of the many ways to manage them.

FAQ

frequently asked questions

Do hand fillers look natural?

Yes, the goal of hand fillers is to restore lost volume, minimise fine lines and wrinkles, and reduce the visibility of veins and tendons — all while maintaining a natural and harmonious appearance. Having hand fillers administered by a skilled and experienced aesthetic doctor is crucial, as a qualified doctor will be able to take into account the unique anatomy of the hands and aim to enhance their aesthetics without creating an overfilled or unnatural look.

Our doctors will first being assessing your individual needs before customising the hand filler treatment to help you achieve subtle, yet significant improvements that blend seamlessly with your overall appearance.

Suitable candidates for hand fillers typically include individuals who are experiencing:

  • Volume loss in the hands, causing them to appear sunken or bony

  • Visible signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles

Hand fillers can also be considered by those looking to rejuvenate the appearance of their hands to achieve a more youthful look.

Several types of hand fillers are available in Singapore, and the choice of which one is better for you depends on your specific needs and goals. The two main types of hand fillers we use in Aesthetic Studio Clinic are hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers — Restylane®, Juvederm and calcium hydroxylapatite-based collagen-stimulating fillers — Radiesse®.

Choosing the right hand filler for you depends on factors such as the severity of volume loss, your skin’s condition, and your personal preferences. During a consultation with our aesthetic doctor, we will assess your hands and discuss your goals to determine which filler is the most suitable for your needs.

Hand fillers typically last approximately 12 to 18 months. The exact longevity of the results can vary from person to person, depending on factors such as the type of filler used and the specific area of the hands treated.

While hand fillers are not permanent, they offer a non-surgical and effective way to rejuvenate the hands, and their minimal downtime and recovery process makes them a popular choice for individuals seeking improvements in their hand’s appearance.

A topical numbing cream will be applied prior to a hand filler treatment to ensure that the treatment is comfortable for you. Most of our patients describe the sensation as a brief stinging, or pinching feeling as the needle is inserted.

Hand fillers typically involve minimal to no downtime, and patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment.

As with other injectable treatments, mild side effects such as swelling at the injection site, minor bruising or temporary redness may occur, but these effects are temporarily and will subside within a couple of days.

As dictated by the Ministry of Health in Singapore, we are not allowed to publish ‘before’ and ‘after’ images of aesthetic treatments. If you are interested in seeing the full before-and-after results, please get in touch with us here, and we will send the images to you.

Restylane® Kysse Lip Fillers
What is Restylane® Kysse

Dubbed as the gold standard of lip fillers, Restylane® Kysse is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler that’s designed specifically for our lips. Using XpresHAn™ Technology, it provides flexible movement and natural-looking volume while enhancing the texture and colour of the lips.

Benefits of Restylane Kesse
  • Luscious, plumped lips

  • Soft, natural-looking results

What to Expect

Step 1

All Restylane® Kysse fillers come with lidocaine, an anesthetic, to ensure that your treatment is relaxing and entirely comfortable. Initially, a topical anesthetic will be applied on the injection site to numb the area.

Step 2

Our aesthetic doctor will begin the procedure with the first injection using an ultra-fine needle, before taking a pause to allow the lidocaine in Restylane® Kysse to further numb the lip area.

Step 3

The procedure then continues until the treated area shows the desired results. Thereafter, the injected area will be massaged to ensure that the filler gel is distributed evenly across the lips for natural results.

Are there any before and after photos of Restylane® Kysse results?

As dictated by Ministry of Health, we are not allowed to publish ‘before’ and ‘after’ images of aesthetic treatments. If you are interested in seeing the full before-and-after results please provide us with your name and email below, and we will send the images to your email address.

Restylane Kysse Frequently Asked Questions
Am I an ideal candidate for Restylane® Kysse Lip Fillers?

Patients should not use Kysse lip filler if they:

  • Have a history of severe allergic reactions.

  • Have had a previous allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid fillers.

  • Are allergic to anesthetics, like lidocaine.

While both of these are hyaluronic acid lip fillers, they have slightly different formulas. Restylane® Kysse adds volume and enhances your existing lip shape and symmetry to create smooth, natural-looking lips. It can also treat smoker’s lines, or commonly known as wrinkles around the mouth.

Juvederm, on the other hand, is a great option for patients who are looking for a more voluminous look. When deciding on which lip filler, it depends on the look you want to achieve.

Due to the different formulations, Restylane® Kysse has a unique structure that lasts longer than other fillers. Most dermal lip fillers last around 9 months, however you can expect results lasting up to 12 months with Restylane® Kysse.

The discomfort experienced during the treatment varies from person to person and depends on factors such as:

  • Sensitivity of the patient

  • Pain tolerance of the patient

  • Anxiety level of the patient

Restylane® Kysse comes with anesthetic inside the gel already, hence discomfort is at its minimum.

All lip fillers have some mild side effects. You may experience some slight swelling and bruising on the injected area, but these should go away within 7 days.

  • As with other lip fillers treatment, a cold compress may be applied to the injected area to reduce swelling.

  • Avoid touching the injected area for at least 6 hours so that you do not accidentally injure your skin while the area is numb. Thereafter, the treatment area can be gently washed with soap and water.

  • Minimise strenuous exercise and exposure to excess heat, sun, or UV rays for the first 24 hours. Exposure to these may cause temporary redness, swelling, or itching at the treated area.

Full aftercare instructions will also be provided after the treatment.

Acne

A commonly overlooked yet physically and psychologically scarring problem, acne is a long-drawn problem that commences at puberty and can drag on well into one’s 20s to 30s. Adult-onset acne is also common, commencing in one’s 20s to 30s and dragging on well beyond that. Caused mainly by accumulation of dead skin, bacterial infection and uncontrolled inflammation, acne is a rather well understood medical condition. Hormonal influences, genetic factors, and even proposed dietary influences are known to be the underlying drivers of acne in some too. Early intervention is the best solution – less acne translates to less scarring, saving you precious time and finances required in attempting to resurface those pesky scars later on.

Acne Treatments

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels consist of mild acids that, when applied to skin, promote controlled exfoliation of skin as well as inactivation of the sebaceous units responsible for breakouts.

Used as a complimentary form of treatment to existing topical therapy, chemical peels can quickly and effectively control most forms of acne.

3-5 sessions are typically required at 2 weekly intervals to bring acne under control, with subsequent sessions done every 4-6 weeks for maintenance.

Carbon Peel

Using a specialised laser and a black carbon-based ink on the face, sebaceous glands can be targeted, bacteria killed, and mild exfoliation performed.

Sessions done at 2-4 weekly intervals can help keep acne bay while also helping to lighten any post-inflammatory pigmentation left by the acne and even reduce pore size.

AGNES

For the larger, stubborn and recurrent acne, the use of a highly selective probe to deliver high radio-frequency energy into the sebaceous unit effectively and permanently inactivates the gland.

This more permanent solution to acne allows for effective management of recurrent acne without having to resort to oral medication such as oral isotretinoin.

Tattoo Removal
Tattoos, while easily placed, are much more complicated to erase. Newer methods of treatment are more reliable, and total time required for tattoo removal can be shortened to less than a year.

Tattoos, while easily placed, are much more complicated to erase. Existing therapies involve the use of nano-second Q-switched lasers, but treatments prove difficult with many requiring 2-3 years of repeated visits at 2-3 monthly intervals. Newer methods of treatment involve the use of newly developed pico-second lasers. These lasers, firing many times faster than conventional Q switched lasers, fracture pigments more effectively. In effect, treatments are more reliable, and total time required for tattoo removal can be shortened to less than a year.

Here at The Aesthetic Studio, we employ the use of the Lutronic Picoplus Pico-second laser for optimal tattoo removal; with 4 wavelengths of light at your disposal, removal of tattoos of varying colour and complexity just got easier.

With a high energy output, a wide range of precisely controllable fluence output and four wavelengths of light for increased versatility, the Picoplus Pico-second laser is optimised for tattoo removal and pigment management.

Depending on tattoo complexity, 5-10 sessions may be required at monthly intervals for optimal clearance.

Combination with ablative lasers may be advised to reduce post-laser blistering commonly associated with tattoo removal.
